Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical engineering involves the study of the engineering properties of soil, usually as they pertain to site improvements such as structures, pavement and utilities. A typical geotechnical engineering study includes reviewing available mapped information, executing subsurface borings or test pits, laboratory testing, engineering analyses and developing recommendations in support of proposed site improvements.

Insight Geologic recently expanded its geotechnical engineering capabilities with the addition of Calvin McCaughan, P.E. and Principal Geotechnical Engineer. Calvin brings with him a breadth of geotechnical experience.  Calvin has served as the geotechnical lead on projects ranging from new bridges and port facilities to residential landslide repairs. He is licensed as a professional engineer in the states of Washington and Oregon.
